Coding Tips

DCS provides an open library of some best practices or particularly nasty bugs we have solved in our CodingTips section. Read on for more information.

Open Source Collaboration

Source Code

DCS is committed to making our source code accessible. We are working on getting anonymous read only repository access and a subversion viewer available for all open source code. Information will be posted to the news section when that is available.

All of our code is stored in Subversion. You can read Version Control With Subversion , the official reference online or at your favorite local bookshop. For CVS users, the migration path is pretty easy; the tools are very similar in terms of interface for basic tasks. For IDE users, most modern IDEs either support or will support in the very near future Subversion access.

Build System

DCS uses Maven and Ant to build our projects. Detailed information about our use of Maven is at:

https://www.darkcornersoftware.com/confluence/display/MAVEN/Home

OpenJDK

DCS does not support any of our applications on OpenJDK. A number of regressions have been introduced from the Java SE codebase that essentially break most of our applications (e.g. SwingWorker/Threading do not function properly). For those still interested, we have documentation on building openJdk with NetBeans on Fedora Core 7 (FC7) from source.

Continuous Integration

Our projects are built by Bamboo at each SVN commit. Hop over to Bamboo to view the current status:

Other Information

Several of our applications use specific multicast groups and ports. For more information, please refer to our registry.

We are working at converting our applications to use IPv6. We've collected some helpful IPv6 resources.
